the israeli military base here you can see them throwing. stones and using slingshots to throw objects we've also seen a lot of glass marbles being fired up in this direction as well plume from slingshots and catapults and so this is this is how it is playing out the numbers are certainly much less than we saw at the beginning of this process when there was a substantial march of hundreds of people down this road which was before any of this could really get under way tried to be dispersed by a very substantial substantial as a model coming in a substantial amount of tear gas and so the majority of that crowd was fired into the middle of and since then it's been this pattern of starting throwing followed by pretty overwhelming response from the israeli side a little earlier on we saw the troops rush out and rush

just exploded by. is this place looks like it was not a stumbling or apply work it was at that was a fireworks set off by one of the palestinian protesters ok so. earlier when we were talking to you there was a bit more of a sleeper bringing you the live pictures now we can see the protesters behind you saw farm workers going off there are more rocks in coming. there are more storms quite a good are muchly to get up the length of that room as they are quite some distance away but. earlier when we were speaking there really did seem to be a very heavy police presence because there were a lot of protesters that the military were trying to clear from the area once the protesters have been there rather flashpoints in the city that the protesters are going to. the that are going to try and regroup or are there other

protests ryans bethlehem. that are likely to. that are likely to it's happened during the afternoon. well there is you coming up to 6 pm now that is when there was meant to be a protest at manger square near the church of the nativity. that is that was always likely to be less violent than this this is a very deliberate confrontation between protesters and. during your right ok. all reflected and i think maybe we should i think move over here why don't you guys get to somewhere a little bit safer let's just. what i just move out of shorts and we can maybe just leave the camera a lot of. cake and i can continue talking to you but maybe we can just be a bit more aware of our surroundings and hurt another colleague just got in the

we saw them go in with tear gas with chemical laced running water and with a sniper stationed at one stage after very. dispersed the crowd and arrested one man now we're seeing sniper fire from a distance into those. protesters that we've been describing throwing rocks throwing more balls. and we're seeing we do we know what we are going to get into we are going to. ok a lot of good will that ambulances no tearing off at a fair clip 3rd zone the roads. do you know. a 3rd shot just then. ok that's a 3rd shots. so that at. least 3 shots of life ammunition that have been fired. are al-jazeera producer has seen one

protester a direct hit from that live ammunition and an ambulance has no sped away we are assuming with that injured process in the background harry do you know if the snipers are still in the area. well i mean they have justified 3 shots from very close i can't tell you exactly what their position is it seems that it could be from the building that we just showed you a few minutes ago to our right. obviously the sound is reverberating around it's hard to triangulate precisely within a career but yes there is a stairs and obviously. pretty clearly i can't i wasn't looking at the team but. i can tell you that earlier in the day there was a sniper team station down here we know that the israeli soldiers have been using live during the course of this protest here in jerusalem we heard going out from

very close to where we are which is very close to was an israeli position so all the signs would indicate that this is really sniper fire being used on a group of protesters that we just saw a few minutes ago throwing rocks and marbles at their position here ok. if you could just so that's 3 shots of live ammunition that have been fired we've seen at least one protester being injured loaded into the back of an ambulance but you have been on the scene talking to me for the last. hour or 2 just give us a sense of what has been happening remind our viewers you're just joining us live on al-jazeera of what has been happening in your position in bethlehem in the occupied west bank who has the afternoon starts to just talk us through how we got

to this position right here. certainly let's go through it chronologically we are just around 6 pm just coming up to 6 pm now. the protesters started gathering a little bit before 1 pm and at about 130 there was a major. march down this street that you're looking down with us in the direction of our camera which is also very close to where the israeli military position is here overlooking the street almost as soon as they got to a little bit further away from the smoke and the the large rubbish bin and this man who's been walking around here. really quite recklessly given that he's not part of the protest for much of the day a little bit a little bit further down the street from there as soon as they got to that position there was a major rush by the israeli military jeeps burying tear gas canisters on their reframing launcher they tried to disperse it almost immediately in very large

concentrated numbers so that protest that demonstration that march was dispersed very quickly and since then it has been this kind of thing in a greater or lesser number of people throwing stones using slingshots to use to project marbles in this direction as well getting as close as they can try to just act in a defiant manner half the time make gestures use body language to show that they are afraid of the israeli soldiers that is the message that they're trying to convey there are 2 roads that converge on this point we're looking down the main one there's also another one almost in peril of a slight angle to it and there is well we've seen people approaching this position again doing the same thing throwing rocks at every every few minutes once this is been happening for maybe 5 or 10 minutes and they've been getting closer and closer and closer and try.
